440: Satisfaction - In depth
BILLY PURL (HAROLD GLEN MARTIN) REMEMBERS:
The high point of all the radio gigs was at the former border blaster, XERF in Acuna, Mexico. I was paid $500 a week in American dollars; the rate of exchange at the time was 250 pesos per dollar; a T-bone cost a dollar and a cold beer was a dime. The so-called 250,000 watts of power was by now 50-60,000 watts on a cold night. To my knowledge I was the last live American jock to actually broadcast from one of the world's first 'pirate' radio stations.

Meanwhile across the border in Del Rio, Texas, the city proudly displays a Wolfman Jack statue honoring a man who was, in my opinion, the greatest radio entertainer of our time.
